Gasparilla Gas! Snook & Trout 7/17/26

Some hilarious Snook and trout activity popped up (actually "popping") on various flats and grass patches of Gasparilla sound today. Although a bit dizzily and overcast, some calm water could be found in the lee of a stiff northwest breeze pushing steadily over the causeway. Swirls began to appear as baitfish the size of your thumb drive, balled in peril, were sipped of the surface. Trout were carnivorously cooperative consistently crashing Clousers (sorry). The mayhem subsided as the tidal curve flattened but an amusing warm up for fly flingers,
Closer to the mangroves some adorable young Snook began smacking a small baitfish imitation after refusing the previously productive Clouser. Likely due to the ubiquitous grass tangling the tiny teaser every other cast.
In the shot above, I slipped on the wet deck after setting down the camera. Of course, the self-timer went off just as I hit the deck capturing the less than graceful pose. The fish was ok and swam away leaving no time for a retake. For laughs I kept the pic.
The cacophonous crash created considerable caution in the cove. Basically, the bite bit the dust, but some respectable morning bites were had.
